Furniture Restoration and Conservation Services We Provide . . .
At Schuettinger Conservation Services, Inc., we
regularly disassemble completely or partially the case or frame of an object, consolidate damaged elements, integrate wood loss, and reassemble the object
using appropriate traditional and nontraditional adhesives and reversible
barriers as required to ensure the object’s preservation and to allow it to be
used as indicated by the current custodian.
Other services are included in this section and explained below. -- We regularly perform all forms of traditional and non-traditional wood loss replication to include turning, carving, inlay, marquetry, parquetry, veneering, and solid wood and joined element replacement. All partial replacements are integrated into the original surrounding surfaces. All complete loss replacements are based on documented historical evidence gained through research and the physical evidence uncovered during the testing and analysis phase of treatment. -- We regularly perform all forms of cleaning of clear coated; paint decorated, and or gilded wood surfaces as well as metal mounts or other materials found on the objects while preserving any original or older painted surfaces. -- We regularly perform all forms of coating loss replacements to include incoating of monochromatic paint, faux graining and Polychrome paint decoration, freehand gilt decoration, bronzing powder (Mica Powder) application, and water and oil gilding. -- We often design and fabricate minimal and nonintrusive upholstery platforms and panels to be integrated into an historical frame so that the object can be used as an article of seating furniture while preserving the original frame and allowing for partial or complete removal of the upholstery system. -- We regularly collaborate with other conservation professionals in various fields to include upholstery, metals, paper, analysis, etc. -- We work with other highly skilled professional technicians and craftsman who specialize in the fabrication of parts for replication such as historical hardware or additions of supportive elements. If you have a question about your object's condition or any of the services we provide in furniture conservation or restoration, please contact us. |
