Reproductions and Original Designs
We are often asked to reproduce an existing piece of furniture to match other pieces in a private or museum collection. We welcome these type of projects and work through our "new furniture" company, Art in Furniture by Schuettinger.
These types of projects encompass many of the same woodworking and finishing skills as standard conservation work, but also require a draughtsman's talents as well as an artistic eye. We strive to source the best quality wood and hardware for our reproductions and approach the work with the same mindset as the intentions of the original artisan.
Each piece requires hours of concentrated work and attention to detail. Matching the proportions, stance, tool marks and finish to the original is a painstaking process. Traditional craftsmanship, tools and finish recipes are used whenever possible.
