Q: How do I obtain conservation and restoration services from your firm?
After contacting us, we first assess the current condition of the item with our clients. We can examine your object either at our studio or we can also visit you off-site to assess the condition.
With an accurate assessment, we will generate a condition report and treatment report which outlines the objects current condition and our recommendations for treatment. This proposal also serves as a contract for the work is to be performed by our firm and the associated fees involved.
We can transport your object and/or arrange for a commercial shipper or moving company to transport your object to our studio.
During the process of work, we will document the treatment and work at-hand and then provide a treatment report generally with photo documentation if applicable.
Q: Can I commission a reproduction from your firm?
Often times, we have clients who desire to have a furniture piece reproduced or replicated. We have over 30 years of experience working with furniture from prestigious institutions and also have a vast knowledge of modern furniture design as well. Our studio is equipped with traditional and modern equipment and tools to so we may create projects with skill and precision.
Through Art in Furniture by Schuettinger, a sister company in the same building and owned by our conservation company, we can design and reproduce any type of furniture. If you would like to have an object reproduced, please provide a photograph from a book, magazine or direct us to an online site and or provide us with a similar object to help us begin the process.
The information we will need to discuss to being a reproduction is the overall size of the object, the color finish you desire, timeline for work and transportation arrangements.
After this information is acquired, a detailed treatment proposal with contract and scaled drawings of the image will be delivered. A final contract will need to be signed by the client before any work is started.
Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we have Liability Insurance and Personal Property of Others Insurance.
Q: Are my object safe? How is your studio secured?
A: We work with historically significant and highly valued furniture on a daily basis. Our studio is equipped with a monitored security system.
Q: Is your studio climate controlled?
A: Yes. Our studio is humidified in the winter months and air conditioned and dehumidified during the summer months.
Q: Do you work with Insurance Companies?
A: Yes. We work with insurance companies in the restoration and the treatment of furniture that have been affected by insurance-related issues such as floods, fire and other situations. Please see the section about insurance companies or call our studio for more information on this subject.
